Make Sure You’re Ready

The law surrounding visitor accommodation in Wales is changing, with a new Visitor Accommodation Register being introduced.

From October 2026, anyone providing bookable overnight accommodation in Wales will be required by law to register with the Welsh Revenue Authority (WRA).

The requirement will apply across the visitor accommodation sector, from individuals occasionally letting accommodation through to professional operators offering properties throughout the year. Whether accommodation is available for a single night, seasonally or all year round, it will fall within the new registration requirements.

All visitor accommodation providers will need to be registered by 31 March 2027.

What will you need to provide?

Registration will be free, with the Welsh Government advising that the process should take most people less than 15 minutes. There is no approval process; instead, owners will be asked to provide basic information about themselves and their accommodation.

This is expected to include:

• Name and contact details, including address, telephone number and date of birth

• Company number, if applicable

• Charity number, if applicable

• Trading name, if applicable

• Address of the visitor accommodation

• Type of accommodation being offered

• Maximum number of guests the accommodation can sleep

• When the accommodation is normally open and available for bookings

The new register is designed to provide a clearer and more accurate picture of the visitor accommodation and tourism sector operating across Wales.
