Tenby is the home of Long Course Weekend Wales, it is a gruelling sporting event which sees athletes take on a 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile cycle and 26.2 mile run over a three-day period with arguably some of the best views ever. The Pembrokeshire spectators have been named ‘the best in the world’ with the community coming together to support family, friends and all those taking part. The atmosphere over the whole weekend is electric!

The Wales Swim

The 2.4-mile swim takes place on the Friday evening on Tenby’s North Beach. The swim starts north of Goscar Rock, and you have the option of two distances to choose from. 2.4 miles is two laps of the route, and the 1.2 miles is just one lap. North Beach overlooks the picturesque Tenby harbour where there is ample viewing space – we recommend standing on the clifftops overlooking the beach where you can get a bird’s eye view!

The Wales Sportif

The second leg of the event is the cycle. There are three distances to choose from, 112 miles, 70 miles or 42 miles which makes is a great race to try for the first time. The cycle route takes you on a scenic tour of Pembrokeshire including Freshwater West, Angle, Wiseman’s Bridge, Saundersfoot and starting and finishing in Tenby. Saundersfoot will see athletes take on ‘heartbreak hill’ or St Bride’s Hill (just up the road from Puffin Cottage Holidays!) to be crowned King of the Hill.

The Run

To round the weekend off is the running event. There are four distances to choose from so there’s something suitable for everyone, choose from a marathon, a half marathon, a 10k or a 5k. The Veloforte Wales Marathon starts and finishes in Tenby where there will be a red carpet and a fantastic group of spectators waiting for you to cross the finish line.
