Saundersfoot Cawl Trail 2026
Spring in Saundersfoot gets off to a wonderfully Welsh start with the return of the much-loved Saundersfoot Cawl Trail, taking place on 28th February to coincide with St David’s Day celebrations. Organised by the local community and promoted by Love Saundersfoot, this popular event invites visitors and locals alike to explore the village one spoonful at a time while celebrating Wales’s national dish.
During the trail, a variety of cafés, pubs and restaurants around Saundersfoot serve up their own take on traditional Welsh cawl — a hearty, slow-cooked soup made with lamb or beef, root vegetables and plenty of flavour. Participants start and finish at the Regency Hall, where bowls are available on a first come, first served basis. Entry is a minimum £5 per person, which includes a locally handmade, bespoke cawl bowl to keep as a souvenir.
This year’s bowls are extra special. Bryony from Narberth Pottery is hand-making a limited edition run exclusively for the trail, each one finished with a special Love Saundersfoot Cawl Trail stamp on the base — a beautiful keepsake that celebrates both the event and local craftsmanship.
Once you’ve got your bowl, follow the trail around the village, sampling different cawls and voting for your favourite. It’s a fun and interactive way to discover local eateries while soaking up Saundersfoot’s friendly village atmosphere.
The Cawl Trail is the perfect excuse for a February or March break by the coast. The village is quieter than in peak summer, yet full of life, with crisp coastal walks, early spring sunshine and a strong sense of community. It’s an ideal time to enjoy the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, harbour strolls and warming food after a day outdoors.
Staying with Puffin Cottage Holidays puts you right at the heart of the action, with comfortable self-catering cottages just moments from the trail. If you’re tempted by great food, fresh sea air and a taste of Welsh tradition, now is the perfect time to plan your stay.
