Extensively renovated, The Gables retains plenty of character while offering a bright, contemporary interior designed for comfortable coastal breaks.

The cottage sleeps six guests across three double bedrooms, making it ideal for families, couples or groups of friends looking to explore North Pembrokeshire together. Downstairs, guests can relax in the cosy sitting room with its character stone fireplace, enjoy meals together in the separate dining room or make the most of the contemporary fully fitted kitchen, which opens out towards the garden.

Upstairs are three double bedrooms, a modern family bathroom and an additional office room, particularly useful for anyone who needs to catch up on a little work during a longer stay. One of the real highlights is the outlook, with wonderful sea and coastal views providing a constant reminder of just how close you are to the Pembrokeshire coast. Outside, the landscaped rear garden offers seating areas and a sunny terrace, perfect for breakfast outside, an evening drink or simply relaxing after a day exploring. There is also the considerable advantage of private driveway parking, together with a garage/workshop offering additional storage. Discover Newport, Pembrokeshire Newport, or Trefdraeth, is one of those places that visitors return to time and again. Sitting between the coast, Nevern Estuary and the Preseli Hills, it has managed to retain a wonderfully relaxed character while offering an excellent selection of independent shops, galleries, cafés, pubs and restaurants.

Unlike a purpose-built seaside resort, Newport feels like a living coastal community throughout the year. Spend the morning exploring the coast, wander into town for lunch, browse the independent shops and finish the day watching the sun disappear over the North Pembrokeshire coastline. The town also has a fascinating history. Newport was founded by the Normans in the 12th century, while its harbour at Parrog later played an important role in the local wool trade. Beach lovers are spoilt for choice in this part of Pembrokeshire.

Newport Sands, known locally as Traeth Mawr or "Big Beach", is a magnificent long, dune-backed sandy beach at the mouth of the River Nevern. Its wide expanse of sand makes it a favourite for beach days, long walks and watersports.

Then there’s The Parrog, a particularly picturesque part of Newport where the Coast Path follows the shoreline around the old lifeboat station and alongside the estuary. It’s a wonderful spot for an evening stroll and is especially known for its coastal sunsets. Venture a little further along this stretch of coastline and you’ll discover some of North Pembrokeshire’s smaller gems.

Cwm-yr-Eglwys is a sheltered sandy cove famous for the remains of St Brynach’s church overlooking the beach, while nearby Pwllgwaelod offers another attractive cove looking across the bay towards Fishguard.

Between them are quiet coves, rock pools, wooded valleys and stretches of coastline that make this area feel a world away from everyday life.

Walk the Pembrokeshire Coast Path

For walkers, The Gables is superbly positioned for exploring the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. One of the great local stretches runs between Pwllgwaelod and Newport, taking in Dinas Island, Cwm-yr-Eglwys, secluded beaches including Aberfforest and eventually The Parrog and Newport. The full route is around seven miles and showcases exactly why North Pembrokeshire has such a loyal following, with dramatic headlands, hidden beaches and far-reaching sea views along the way. Those looking for another challenge can head inland and climb Carn Ingli, the "Mountain of Angels", which rises behind Newport and rewards walkers with panoramic views across the surrounding countryside and coastline.

A different side of Pembrokeshire

Many visitors first discover Pembrokeshire through destinations such as Tenby and Saundersfoot, but head north and the landscape changes. This is a wilder, quieter side of the county, where the Preseli Hills meet the sea and small coves sit between dramatic stretches of coastline.

It’s an area made for walking boots, beach bags and days spent exploring, but Newport also means you don’t have to sacrifice good food, a welcoming pub or a morning coffee to enjoy it. That combination makes The Gables equally appealing for a summer family holiday, an active walking break or a cosy autumn and winter escape.
