Situated just outside of Tenby is the quiet village of Penally. It’s a great central location, away from the hustle and bustle, located between Tenby and Manorbier with direct access to the coastal path and beaches, it’s an ideal base to enjoy beautiful Pembrokeshire.
Things to do
Penally Abbey is set in beautiful gardens overlooking Caldey Island. It’s the perfect place to enjoy an afternoon tea. You can expect scones, sandwiches, and a selection of sweet treats. It can be enjoyed in either the dining room or the cosy sitting room and on a nice day you can soak up the sun in the peaceful surroundings.
Penally is located right on the coastal path running from Tenby to Lydstep and is the perfect base to explore this small part of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path. You can access the beach just past Penally train station via the sand dunes, then head right towards Giltar Point where you can join the coastal path and head towards Lydstep – it’s the best place to take in the views of Caldey Island.
Just off the coastal path you’ll find WW1 practice trenches. These trenches were built between 1914 and 1918 where they trained soldiers ready to be sent to war. The trenches are still visible today and are a reminder of the sacrifices that were made.
Tenby town is within walking distance of quiet Penally, why not take a stroll through the sand dunes and head left across South Beach. The cobbled streets of Tenby are lined with local shops, cafes and quirky cocktail bars making it the perfect day out.
